Below is the list of scholarships available to incoming freshmen.

Allen H. Neuharth Excellence in Journalism:
Scholarships awarded to most qualified applicants who will work on the student newspaper, the Volante.
Eligibility: High school seniors talented in print journalism.
Amount: $34,000.00 over a four year period

Promise Scholarship:
 
Eligibility: High school seniors who have an ACT composite of 24 or above or SAT combined score of 1070 or above.  Must maintain a 3.2 or higher grade point average at the University.
Amount: $1,000.00 per year in scholarship assistance, renewable for a total of four years
Terms: Two scholarships with four years of eligibility.
Deadline:  No deadline

John T. Vucurevich  Pre-Business Scholarships:

Awarded to incoming pre-business majors based on combination of ACT/SAT and class rank.  Amount: $500.00-$700.00 for freshman year.  Contact admissions at 1-877-COYOTES

USD School of Law Honor Scholarship Program:

Awarded to South Dakota high school seniors with excellent grades and a 28 or higher ACT composite score and have an interest in law.  Amount $4,000.00 over 4 years.  Deadline: December 17.

Mickelson Scholarships:

Awarded to academically talented South Dakota Applicants.  Eligibility:  ACT composite score of 30 or above or 1310 SAT.  Amount: $34,000.00 over a four year period.  Contact: Admissions at 1-877-COYOTES.

National Merit Scholars:
Scholarships awarded to resident and nonresident finalists who are first-time freshmen.
Eligibility: Finalists who specify USD as first choice to the National Merit Corporation.
Amount: Resident tuition and academic fees.
Terms: Four years of eligibility.

National Merit Semifinalists:
Scholarships awarded to resident semifinalist who are first-time freshmen.
Eligibility: Semifinalists who specify USD as first choice to National Merit Corporation.
Amount: Minimum award of $1,500 per year.
Terms: Four years of eligibility.

Presidential Alumni:
Four year scholarships covering resident tuition and academic fees.
Eligibility: High school seniors with a composite score of 27 or above on the ACT or a 3.75 or higher grade point average.
Amount: Resident tuition and fees.
Terms: Four years of eligibility. Includes special application and project. Contact USD Admissions at 1-877-COYOTES.

Presidential Alumni Alternates:
Scholarships awarded to the alternates in the Presidential/Alumni competition.
Eligibility: High school seniors with a composite score of 27 or above on the ACT or a 3.75 or higher grade point average.
Amount: $1,000 for freshman year.

Deadline: February 1.

Rawlins:
Awarded to the highest-ranking seniors at the following high schools: Aberdeen Central & Roncalli; Brandon Valley; Brookings; Huron; Mitchell; Rapid City Central & Stevens; Sioux Falls Lincoln, O'Gorman, Roosevelt, & Washington; Vermillion; Watertown; and Yankton.
Eligibility: Based on seventh semester class rank. Amount: $2,200 per year.

School of Medicine Alumni Foundation :
Scholarships awarded to South Dakota high school seniors with excellent grades who earn a 28 or higher ACT composite score.
Eligibility: Qualifying South Dakota high school seniors.
Amount: $1,000 per year and admission to the USD School of Medicine.
Terms: Six awards with four years of eligibility. Contact USD Admissions at 1-877-COYOTES.
Deadline: February 1.

Tribal Members:
Scholarships awarded to high school seniors who are tribal members and have demonstrated high academic potential.
Eligibility: High school seniors who are enrolled members of federally recognized Indian Tribes.
Amount: Amount and number of awards vary. Contact USD Financial Aid Office at 1-877-COYOTES.
Deadline: March 1.

USD Incentive:
Scholarships awarded to new freshmen who earn a 24, 25, or 26 ACT composite score.
Amount: $400 for freshman year.
Terms: Unlimited number of awards. Contact: USD Admissions at 1-877-COYOTES.

Dillon Scholarships for Political Science and Criminal Justice:
Eligibility: High school seniors who plan to major in political science or criminal justice.
Amount: $1000 for freshman year.
Terms: Three awards for freshmen. Contact the Political Science and Criminal Justice Department at 1-877-COYOTES.
Deadline: December 17.

Margaret B. Sanger Scholarships in English:
Eligibility: High school seniors who plan to major in English.
Amount: Amounts vary. Contact the English Department at 1-877-COYOTES.
Deadline: December 17.

Music Scholarships:
Eligibility: Music majors and talented non-majors.
Application: Auditions are held in February or March. Contact the Department of Music at 1-877-COYOTES.

ROTC Scholarships:
Eligibility: ACT/SAT scores, leadership activities and personal interviews.
Amount: Tuition & fees for 4 years. Plus $600.00 book allowance & monthly stipend.
Terms: Scholarships awarded for four, three, and two years. Contact the Military Science Department at 1-877-COYOTES.
Deadline: November 15.

Speech/Debate Scholarships:
Eligibility: Students interested in forensics.

Theatre Scholarships:
Eligibility: Students who plan to major in theatre.

Farber Scholarships:

Eligibility:  High school seniors who plan to major in political science and minor in leadership studies.

Swanson Scholarship:
